I was looking through a map of Washington D.C. and realized you could stay for an entire month and still not see everything. There seems to be not only historical and educational sights, but everywhere we go there are advertisements for orchestras, singing groups, youth ensembles, etc.
We’ve got a good system worked out for going to and from the city everyday. It involves buses and the metro (which by the way has been the most favorite part of the trip for our kids.)
Carter just chillin’ on the bus. (A new experience for the boys.)
The White House was under heavy security today. The entire length of Pennsylvania Avenue was roped off and there was an armed police officer every half a block or so. (One brave soul went under the ropes for a photo op and the police were all over her like white on rice.)
Riley said he wanted to give President Obama a gift of $2,000.00. I told Riley that he (Obama) has already taken enough of our money – we don’t need to give him any more.
Riley on the carousel in the park – I think he almost fell off here.
The official McDonald’s delivery truck to the White House. Seriously.
We spent a good part of the day at the Air and Space museum – it’s one of the coolest things I have ever seen in my life. And I don’t even like space.
Aric and Brayden in front of the Wright Brothers’ first plane called simply, “The Flyer.” FYI: I was interested to find out what type of material they used, I thought it might be canvas. Turns out it was a bleached muslin. Remember that next time you watch JEOPARDY.
Brayden with his latest LEGO possession – we’ll see how long it takes before one of those tiny little pieces is permanently impaled into the bottom of my foot.
Riley had had enough at this point and getting him to take a “happy” picture was an exercise in futility.
On the lawn in front of the Capitol building. It is gorgeous and HUGE!
Aric playing around with Carter on the lawn of the Capitol building.
All in all it was a great day.
