We started today with a tour of one of the local Amish communities. We got to go inside an Amish home, see their barn, animals, spring house, garden, schoolhouse, smokehouse and blacksmith shop. The people were very nice and very willing to answer questions.
This is a day I’ve been looking forward to for months. I bought some quilting material and will be beginning my first Amish quilt when I get back to Arizona and get my wits about me.
The boys decided, after learning about some of the chores Amish children do, that they were grateful the only animal they have to feed is Macho, our toad.
Looking out of the covered bridge.
My Amish “men-in-training.”
A great life lesson posted in the one room schoolhouse:
Carter training to be our family ox.
We learned today that a ring-pop can solve any of life’s calamities.
We took a scenic drive today and found ourselves surrounded by farmland…
and buggies.
We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening at an amusement park called Dutch Family Wonderland. Things were great and everyone was fine until…the Turtle Whirl. Think the teacups at Disneyland on crack. Riley and I hobbled off that ride and looked for the nearest trashcan to puke in while Brayden convinced Aric to go on it with him again.
And here are the stars of Dutch Wonderland… Prince Riley and Princess Brayden. This picture will make for great blackmail in about 10 years.
Tomorrow we are off to the Hershey factory and then to Palmyra. I need to get some rest, I’m still dizzy.
