Toronto: the land of the $50.00 parking space

Today we spent all day in Toronto, not because there was a ton of stuff to do, but because we had to pay $50.00 to park the RV and Aric was determined to make good use of his $$$.

I have noticed a few strange things since crossing the border yesterday. Here’s one of my favorites: a coin-operated toilet, located on a downtown street corner. I’ve never seen one of those in the states before.

IMG_0034 We tried to pack as much “Canadian” culture into one day as we could. The results? The Hockey Hall of Fame…

and Old Dutch Ketchup flavored potato chips, a Canadian favorite (thanks for the tip,Taryn!) The boys loved them!IMG_0041

Now, our family is not big into hockey, but when in Rome, or in this case, Canada.

We could start our own hockey team.IMG_0051 A reminder of home. I wonder whose idea it was to bring a sport needing an ice rink to a place where 9 months out of the year it’s 100 degrees?

Inside the Hall of Fame there is this cool interactive game where you get to be the goalie (without losing any teeth).

I don’t think either of the boys blocked one shot, but they sure had fun trying.

Carter found a hockey (foosball) table game and spent the afternoon playing his invisible opponent. IMG_0095

In Canada there are no bathrooms, they are called the… IMG_0101 This is one of the three original Stanley Cups. The security officer in charge told us that one is now in Chicago (Congratulations, Blackhawks) and the other two are used for promotional purposes.   It was very shiny.

FYI: There are never more than 5 rings around the bottom of the Stanley Cup with the teams and years of Championships engraved on them. Once the ring is full the top one (least recent) is taken off and placed in “the vault.” Then they add another blank ring to the bottom and the process begins all over again.

IMG_0114 What do you think about that, sir?

The Rogers Center, where the Toronto Blue Jays play. (Although, right now, everyone in Toronto seems to be preoccupied with the World Cup.)

This is the CN tower, which was built to consolidate all radio towers into one. It’s the largest tower in North America. We just admired it from the safety of the ground.
